Bifold doors add a sense of luxury and look stunning. Bifolding doors enable you to really open up your home, perfect for a wider conservatory or rear extension entrance because they concertina back on themselves, using minimal space when open. Flexibility and usability are key features of bifold doors. You can have them fully open, fully closed or anywhere in between. When they are closed you get the same warmth, noise-reduction and security provided by all aluminium framed doors. Bifolding doors can open left to right, or right to left and are available with options for glazing, colour, hardware and security to suit your requirements.
Secured By Design is a police security organisation that works with police forces to deliver a range of crime prevention initiatives to make homes more secure. Today, products like doors and windows have to be certified by a UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) certification body before being considered for SBD’s Police Preferred Specification. Excellent Doors offers a range of doors that have achieved this accreditation.
Energy Efficient glass is used in double glazing and triple glazing to help reduce heating bills and improve the carbon footprint. Most new builds will be fitted with energy efficient doors and windows. Owners of older properties are advised to replace any single or old style double-glazing with new energy efficient glass. Unlike single glazing, new energy efficient glass included coated (low-emissivity) glass to stop heat escaping through windows and doors. It offers highly beneficial thermally insulating properties to keep cold out and warmth in. Double glazed windows will have 2 sheets of energy efficient glass with a gap in between of about 16mm. Triple glazing has 3 sheets of glass. The gaps in between forms an insulating barrier and is sometimes filled with gas. Energy efficient glass not only helps to reduce heating bills by making rooms cosier with less draughts, but it also reduces external noise, make your home a more peaceful place to be.
Doors do come in different sizes. UK building regulations state a minimum height and width of entryway to a house, but as long as the door meets this requirement, it can be any size at all. Standard external door sizes include widths of 27, 30, 33 and 36 inches, with heights from 6.6ft (80 inches) – 8ft. New builds usually feature a standard door width of 36 inches, and height 80 inches.
If you are looking for the ultimate in security, a steel door is stronger than wood, upvc or composite doors. Aluminium doors have also become increasingly popular in recent years and offer a high level of security and come with reinforced glass. Bifold doors are very secure and have multi-point locking mechanisms which are operated on the inside. Sliding doors have multi-point locking mechanisms vertically up and down for maximum strength and upvc doors can have anti-snap locks fitted as well as dead bolts for increased security.
The natural strength of aluminium provides enhanced security for your home. The aluminium doors in the Excellent Doors range all feature multi-point locking mechanisms as standard and hold the prestigious BSI Kitemark, a worldwide trusted symbol of quality. Aluminium doors are stronger and more durable than uPVC and have the added advantage of being corrosion free. Because aluminium frames are so strong, skilled craftsmen can create a narrow profile bifold and sliding doors that allow the maximum amount of natural light to flood into a room. This results in a door that is strong, secure and stylishly attractive, combining slim sight lines and elegant styling.
The best external door will be one that is matched to suit your requirements, is thermally efficient and highly secure. The style of external door you choose will much depend on where you want the door to be placed. If you are looking for a front door, a composite door will be a good choice. If you are looking for a French door, a uPVC or timber door will be perfect. If you are looking to create a stunning feature in your home, aluminium bifolding doors will be a great option. A quality external door will be A Rated, C rated, of Triple Glazed with a 0.8 u value. This will help to reduce condensation by up to 70% and reduce heat loss through the doors by up to 94%. At Excellent Doors, we offer a 10 year insurance backed guarantee on all our external doors.
